The Photographic 'Truth' and 'Lie'

Image
Hello Beautiful People, https://www.instagram.com/p/Cd4nVg3uVU0/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link This week's post is about the Insecurity of the Photographic 'Truth'. This was another interesting venture as it plays with the question of the photograph being real or fake. I had a lot of fun playing with this idea in the way I presented my photos in the post, and how I wrote the story to go along with it. Photo of the pink flowers from the IG post Original photo I thought about how I could play with the photographic 'truth' while making the photo interesting. As seen in the original photo, I took an interesting angle where the camera is looking up at the flowers. These photos were taken outside of a dormitory named Ormsby. When I was putting the photos together in the post, I messed around with the filters to play with color. I wanted the flowers to pop with more color, so the blueish hint made the pink pop out more and they were brighter. I manipulated the color palette

In Between Life and the Record

Hello Beautiful People,  https://www.instagram.com/p/Cdm1EiGO52J/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link This week's project was about being between life and record. This was an interesting avenue to go down since it made me think about my project for nostalgia and documentation. My project for this week followed a similar pattern, but I feel that there is something deeper this time around. It was about my experience exploring Lawrence's society in the early spring whereas I have only seen it in the fall and winter.  My friends walking across College Avenue Outside of Steitz Hall My vision of this project was to recreate reality. Not only for the sake of posting something on social media rather it is something the viewer can connect with. Jurgenson talks about this in his book "The Social Photo on Photography and Social Media", where he explains expressing reality as follows: "The sentiment assumes that documentation and experience are essentially at odds. However, as descr

A View into the Looking Glass Self

Image
Hello Beautiful People, https://www.instagram.com/p/CdUlRQSOEuI/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link This week is a wacky one to talk about. Let's jump into it! I was focusing on the looking glass self and how the 'selfie' is involved in social media. I took a different approach for this week as I felt it was a little more personal. A big difference with self-identifying photos is a 'self-portrait' is more about what you can gather about the person, from one photo. However, 'selfies' express the existence of the person, that's pretty much it. Of course, doing more for "selfies' can say a bit about the person but it is more of a mirror perspective.  I tried expressing the personal struggles I have with posting on social media, especially photos that show the person's looks. I played with the idea of creating the 'perfect' photo that is worthy of Instagram, and a photo that passes by in life. Both could be considered selfies but both have some

Grids and Patterns Galore!

Hello Beautiful People, https://www.instagram.com/p/CdCle86Ow3q/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link This week's post is about modularity, grid, and pattern in my work! This was a fascinating journey to explore these fields from an artist's front. It was a little hard for me since I had to figure out how I was going to incorporate them into my stories. Usually, I would not focus on things like patterns in my work since I focus on them being visuals for my stories. While I do take care of the artist angle of my photos, I did not pay attention to specifics like the repetition of patterns or grids. However, this week it made me focus on it and I realized how it affected my work. My room's view of the side of Kohler  I dabbled with grid for one photo, which is the one depicted above. This one was difficult for me since I had no idea what I was going to do. I could not think of a way that I could use grid and have it be a part of my story. That was until I remembered what Lupton and Phi
